Wintec Graduation Week 2013

One of Wintec’s largest graduation celebrations gets underway this week. Close to 1100 graduands will take part in ceremonies, out of the 1900 students eligible to graduate.

Graduation week begins this Friday 15 March with 70 students graduating at Wintec’s city campus marae, Te Kōpū Mānia o Kirikiriroa. The following week, five ceremonies will be held at Founders Theatre.

Wintec’s Chief Executive Mark Flowers says: “Graduation is a highly anticipated celebration for our students and staff. After many months of study and hard work our graduands get the opportunity to celebrate their achievements with families, friends, staff and our wider community.

“The high numbers of students taking part this year is a reflection of the importance our students and their supporters place on achieving a tertiary qualification. We wish them all a successful future.”

A graduand parade will leave from Wintec’s city campus at 1pm on Tuesday 19 March and Wednesday 20 March. Hundreds of graduands wearing regalia will gather outside The Gallagher Hub, walk down to Ward Street and make their way to the Founders Theatre on Tristram Street.

Guest speakers will attend each ceremony offering inspiration to an audience of students, their families and friends as well as Wintec staff and special guests. These include TV3 Entertainment Reporter Kate Rodger, Orcon Founder, Seeby Woodhouse, Tainui Group Holdings CEO, Mike Pohio, Ministry of Health Chief Nurse, Dr Jane O’Malley, NZ National Agriculture Fieldays CEO, Jon Calder and Stainless Design Managing Director, John Cook.

Former Wintec Chair and current Hamilton City Council Deputy Mayor, Gordon Chesterman, will have his honorary award conferred upon him at the Media Arts graduation ceremony on Tuesday 19 March.

Each school and centre will hold a Special Awards event in the evening during graduation week. These events recognise top students of 2012.
