Big Numbers visit NZ’s Largest Pilot Training School

Hamilton, New Zealand – An open day at CTC Aviation Training (NZ) Limited on Saturday 16 March saw a large number of potential pilots in attendance to hear about the future of airline training in New Zealand.

CTC, a global leader in airline pilot training, opened its doors to over 160 people from around New Zealand and Australia who were eager to find out more about what the largest flight training organisation in the country has to offer.

Two Jetstar Captains were on hand to talk to visitors about the growth of Jetstar and the opportunities available to them including CTC’s Jetstar Cadet Pilot Programme, which trains people with no experience through to a type rating on an Airbus A320 and a position as a First Officer with Jetstar.

Richard Falkner, Jetstar Training Captain and Flight Operations Manager for New Zealand, delivered two presentations on the day speaking about what it takes to succeed in the airline industry, and his own career path to date.

CTC’s Managing Director, Ian Calvert, said “There is huge demand for pilots in the Asia Pacific region and the future of our industry relies on more young people training for a career as an airline pilot. The open day was a great success; it’s an opportunity for people to see the extensive facilities at CTC and for us to show them how we differ from other flight training schools – a key difference being that we are the only training provider in New Zealand with direct airline cadet programmes.”

Open day attendees were shown around the Hamilton training facility by CTC’s Flight Instructors and were given the chance to see the state-of-the-art training aircraft and flight simulators up-close. Visitors took the chance to speak with CTC’s current cadets to learn more about the life of a trainee airline pilot.

Two guests on the day won a flight in a Diamond DA42 Twinstar, while two others won the opportunity to have a lesson in a flight simulator.

CTC has over 200 cadets from 15 countries around the world currently training in Hamilton. Many of the cadets will go directly from training to positions as First Officers with CTC’s partner airlines including Jetstar, British Airways, easyJet, Royal Brunei Airlines, and Dragonair.
