CHCH Educators not waiting for new facilities to restart learning
Christchurch has a world-class eduction conference back in town again. The Think Forward Conference is being held on Thursday and Friday this week. 350 teachers and school leaders from all over New Zealand are attending, showing their support for this post-quake renewal initiative.
High quality learning events for teachers were part of the pre-quake Christcurch landscape. A group of educators have taken the initiative and decided not to wait for new, or re-bulit, convention facilities to meet the pressing need for teacher professional development. "The fact that the conference sold out so quickly, to a national audience, shows that after a two-year break Christchurch conferences were sorely missed" says Waimairi School Principal Mike Anderson.
Leading Australian and New Zealand speakers will be working alongside local presenters to give the delegates, from Auckland to Invercargill and all points in between, a challenging and stimulating two days of learning.
To make a conference of this size possible Waimairi Primary School has been transformed into a temporary convention centre this week. The entire staff of the school have banded together during the holiday break to host and run the event. "There has also been considerable support and assistance from a wide range of local businesses who are all keen to see the Christchurch conference and convention market recover" says Anderson.
