Health Sector Managers Can Now Benefit from Online Diploma

Media Release 21 May 2013

Health Sector Managers can now benefit from Online Diploma paper

A new Health sector Diploma level paper for those who are already managing or administrating health and medical practices; PHOs and hospitals will be specifically available online through NorthTec starting in the second semester in July.

This specialist paper -- New Zealand Institute of Management (NZIM) Diploma in Practice Management (Health) Level 5 -- covers three major areas: The health system and health economics; legislation, regulations and compliance; cultural awareness and safety with an understanding of current health and welfare related issues.

“The qualification is for people working within the Health sector. It is ideal for experienced and competent managers who are already managing or administrating health sector practices,” NorthTec’s Programme Leader, Business, Rob Meadows says.

The full NZIM Diploma in Practice Management (Health) is being offered as one-year full time or equivalent part time course and participants are expected to have access to a health practice or any other similar suitable environment as a condition of entry.

While normal diploma papers are available face-to-face at the Whangarei campus, the course is also available online or through distance learning. Students also have the option of studying the full diploma programme through other local NZIM providers.

However, the Management of Health Practices paper is available online through NorthTec.

“NZIM who developed the qualification accredited NorthTec because we have a strong background in business management training and, the support we provide the health sector with our Bachelor in Nursing degree,” Mr Meadows says.

He says it is good that NorthTec gained accreditation for the Diploma from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) and NZIM because it is in line with the government’s desire to improve the accreditation quality of management within the wider health sector.

Students can enrol to study six papers as part of their NZIM diploma programme (Accounting Principles, Business Communication, Organisation and Management, Business Computing, Accounting Practices and Human Resource Management – delivered face-to-face or online) before going on to undertake the actual Management of Health Practices paper.

Health sector managers and administrators keen to upskill and enhance their qualifications can follow the normal enrolment process and contact NorthTec’s Freephone 0800162 100 or enquire through:
