ACWNZ Praises Grossman Report Criticising Sex-ed

19th June 2013
Media Release: ACWNZ Praises Grossman Report Criticising Sex-ed

ACWNZ praises report: "Sexuality Education in New Zealand: A Critical Review", the work of United States psychiatrist Dr Miriam Grossman.

New Zealand parents have been repeatedly denied full disclosure regarding sex-ed in schools due to the imposed opt out clause overlooked by many. Attempts have even been made to remove this limited option.

Association of Catholic Women [ACWNZ] has repeatedly voiced its concern since sex-ed was forced on the nation in approximately 2000. Our research revealed that in the first instance School Principals largely rejected sex-ed, as did Boards of Trustees.

Determination of the government at the time to impose its ideology, was successful. If the media generally is honestly concerned with transparency then it must pursue the matter. Necessity of changing the Police Act should raise alarm bells.

Claims that children need more sexualization due to current destructive practices fly in the face of reason. New Zealand children need to be protected. They are due protection, from those in New Zealand and elsewhere with various vested interests harmful to children. [i.e. those professionally concerned with the promotion/marketing of goods and services related to sexual activities]

Violence against children is a reality world wide and New Zealand children are not immune. Their authentic rights have been trampled underfoot by the slipshod implementation of the Health & Physical Education Curriculum. Those rights include: the right to their innocence, to be allowed to develop  and grow at their own pace, to find their own way in life assisted by their parents; not to be emotionally disturbed and embarrassed, to be freed from harassment. The list is longer, much longer.

Ethics plays a big part in this debate. What is the function of parents, of the State? Who has the ultimate right in the upbringing of children, parents or State? Why should ideology of Government be allowed to take over from parents?

ACWNZ issues a challenge to all New Zealand media. Please, step up to the mark and try your best to protect children in this country - God's own.
