NZ Homebased Early Childhood Education Association supports increased participation in Homebased ECE

The NZ Homebased ECE Association has today expressed regret that the Ministry of Education has cancelled the Homebased ECE Review as announced last December but is happy to see that they are taking a measured approach to continue working with the Homebased ECE sector. The NZHECEA, as the leader in professional homebased Early Childhood Education has continued to gather information and research for the long promised review. Carol Stovold, the president of NZHECEA says "This research is valuable and we look forward to continuing to share these outcomes with the Ministry to inform policy decision making". Ms Stovold says "We have long understood the benefits of homebased ece in delivering the benefits of quality early learning."

Ms Stovold, said today that whilst the review was recommended to look at quality within the fastest growing early childhood education sector, there are many homebased services who continue to ensure that there were high quality learning outcomes for children. She however welcomed the opportunity to continue, the productive working relationship NZHECEA already have with the Ministry of Education, to increase participation and focus on quality. "Many of our member services have innovative ideas about increasing quality, participation and engaging families who have not yet enrolled their children in ECE. Our annual national Conference focussing on innovation, being held in September, will provide opportunities for educators, teachers and management to examine and share these ideas".

Ms Stovold says "The NZHECEA also recognises that the quality of early childhood education provided by educators in New Zealand has been largely unrecognised and undervalued. As an organisation we are very excited to be able to recognise the important contribution educators make in children's learning through the inaugural 'New Zealand Educator of the Year Award' to be presented at the national conference of NZHECEA".

The NZHECEA is the longest operating national organisation representing the largest number of providers of Homebased ECE nationally and represents the individual viewpoints of educators, teachers and management in Homebased ECE.
