Top US universities come to NZ

The US Embassy is this weekend hosting the inaugural USA Universities Expo in Auckland, giving public access to recruiters from some of the world’s top academic institutions.

Nearly 40 universities, including Yale, Stanford and UCLA, will be represented at the Saturday [September 21] event at the Aotea Centre from 11am to 3.30pm. The Embassy encourages students, teachers, and parents interested in undergraduate or graduate study opportunities to attend the free event.

Recruiters will be available to talk about the best ways for potential students to gain admission to universities and access to financial aid and assistance.  They will also cover student visas, athletic scholarships, and university selection.

US Ambassador to New Zealand David Huebner says there has been a great deal of interest from the public.

“Secondary school students I’ve spoken to are excited to have the opportunity to make connections with major universities and have their questions answered.  We had a lot of email inquiries for more information, including from sports-oriented students.

“In fact, we’re arranging buses to help get students from outlying areas to the event, including from Hamilton, Albany, and Henderson.”

The recruitment officials at the expo will be the same people who will read and make assessments on New Zealand applicants’ applications for study and scholarships.

The Expo is open to everyone.
