Students Can ‘Do Better’ When Job Hunting

STUDENTS CAN ‘DO BETTER’ WHEN JOB HUNTING

For Immediate Release October 2014

With hundreds of new graduates hitting the employment market, the question is how to ensure job applications stand out? The answer is support and guidance from new online career development and training service DoBetter.co.nz.

DoBetter.co.nz Marketing Manager Naell Crosby-Roe says the new service, developed with support from Otago Polytechnic, can talk through job seekers’ needs and suggest solutions to help them successfully land their first job.

He says until now there has been no place for job seekers to find independent advice on what they need to do to secure their dream job. Feedback is important to help people find new jobs and he believes it’s essential for those entering the workforce for the first time who are competing with candidates with years of experience.

“Many graduates don’t have fulltime workplace experience so having the ability to create a resume which gets noticed is essential. And then knowing how to present themselves and how to answer tricky interview questions will help them close the deal.”

Once we assess what a job hunter needs we can suggest solutions such as packages to help write a CV that gets noticed or coaching for interviews. Other solutions may be essential training such as a Site Safe Passport or first aid skills, he says.

Job seekers using DoBetter.co.nz can have their free assessment over the phone or by email. Then if they require further training or support they can review suppliers through DoBetter.co.nz. The list of providers is a roll call of New Zealand’s most highly regarded training and HR consultants including; Select Personnel; Capable NZ; New Zealand Institute of Management; St John and Kiwihost to name only a few of the more than 15 professional organisations people can seek training, advice and guidance from.
