Whanganui UCOL Music students’ swansong

14 November 2014

Whanganui UCOL Music students’ swansong

Whanganui UCOL Certificate in Contemporary Music Performance students will be getting live and loud at the Musicians Club on Friday 21 November at 8.00pm.

They will perform a night of covers and original music, showcasing the best of the music the students have studied and written this year. Music will range in genres from; Reggae, Rock N Roll, Blues, Pop, Rock, Country, Urban and Kiwi.

The gig is purely for fun – it is not assessed. Programme Co-ordinator Lizzie de Vegt says, “It’s a chance for the students to shine without the pressure of an assessed gig. They get to perform all their favourite songs on a bigger stage, with lights and a smoke machine.”

The gig is called Kiwifruit Jams and follows the success of last year’s Culmination show held at the Musicians Club.

The students have completed all their assessmets for their Level 4 Certificate in Contemporary Music Performance, and will graduate in March next year.

The Certficate is a 34 week programme, and UCOL are auditioning for the new intake of students for a February start.

Students regularly go out into the Whanganui community for live performances, giving them an opportunity to get valuable experience in public, while adding colour to the local music scene.

Elizabeth is ‘stoked’ with the quality of the music programme and the staff who deliver it. She says the best part of the programme is training students to give back and contribute to the community via music. “That’s what it is all about – Whanganui is a great town with a thriving music scene and we are training musicians to step into that scene locally and nationally.”

When: Friday 21 November 8.00pm
Where: The Whanganui Musicians Club, Drews Ave.
Why: Support UCOL’s talented music students and consider joining us for the Certificate programme in 2015.
