Design Students Get a Push in the Right Direction

Design Students Get a Push in the Right Direction

Since 2011 DesignGel (designgel.org.nz) has been helping young creatives develop the skills for a successful career in design. DesignGel are now looking to add more creative talent to their network and offer their services to a wider range of clients.

DesignGel is a social business, providing quality, affordable design to local community groups and small businesses, while simultaneously giving up-and-coming design students and recent graduates paid work experience in branding, graphic design, web design and illustration.

Being able to work effectively to guide new talent, and minimise the risks that come with inexperience has meant that DesignGel has consistently received great feedback from both clients and creatives. As well as small businesses, DesignGel works with a variety of local not-for-profit organisations and community groups, including The Red Cross, Victoria University, The Soup Kitchen and Nikau Foundation. DesignGel is intent on educating every client about the design process. In a world where visual presence is only gaining importance, good communication is essential.

The intention of DesignGel has always been to help work-ready creative tertiary students in a competitive industry. DesignGel gives students the opportunity to apply their design knowledge and develop their business skills. Many of the creatives that DesignGel work with are new to the commercial aspect of design, and are able to develop the confidence needed to negotiate payments, navigate taxes and client liaising.
