Web coding workshop to be hosted at Upper Hutt Central Library
A free web coding workshop will be available for students aged 14 to 18 during the school holidays at Upper Hutt Central Library.
UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 01 APR 2015—Upper Hutt City Library is providing a coding workshop designed for beginners with little or no web programming experience. Facilitated by expert Tanya Gray and others from across the IT industry, the workshop will be held in Upper Hutt Central Library’s Rotary Lounge. Attendants will be learning about HTML and CSS. They will leave the workshop at the end of the day with a live one-page website published online!
“This is a great opportunity for Upper Hutt teens to learn how to code, creating new possibilities for their future,” says Erica Herron, Upper Hutt City Council’s Community Engagement Team Leader.
Attendants will be able to follow the presenter in constructing a basic web page to learn how to work with layout elements in HTML and CSS, and then fill in content according to their own interests. The workshop will include how to make a header, main navigation, page sections, and embedding videos from YouTube.
Upper Hutt City Library is collaborating with Gather Workshops and Hutt City Libraries, who are facilitating the initiative to offer the workshop around the region. Grow Wellington, Wellington City Council, Masterton District Council, Carterton District Council, Porirua District Council, South Wairarapa District Council, and Kapiti District Council are also involved.
Upper Hutt’s coding workshop will be held at Upper Hutt Central Library on Saturday 11 April, from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm. It is designed for ages 14 to 18.
Registration is essential. To register or for more information, contact Erica Herron on (04) 527 2171 or email erica.herron@uhcc.govt.nz or go to www.bit.ly/GatherCoding
