Motueka students to join The Warehouse Wellington Zoofari

Motueka students to join The Warehouse Wellington Zoofari

60 students from Parklands School in Motueka will sail across the Cook Strait to visit Wellington Zoo today, supported by The Warehouse Wellington Zoofari programme and Interislander.

The Warehouse Wellington Zoofari, a partnership between Wellington Zoo and The Warehouse Group, began in 2013 with the aim of helping low-decile Wellington schools experience nature-based learning programmes at the Zoo.

In 2014, in-store fundraising was extended to the Marlborough and Tasman regions to make the programme accessible to schools from the upper South Island.

“We’re thrilled to be able to help kids from Motueka travel to Wellington Zoo. For many of them this will be their first Zoo visit, so we’re very excited to have them here,” said Lynn Allan, Wellington Zoo Learning Manager.

The group of Year 3 and 4 students from Parklands School will be the first to experience a special Zoofari Sleepover, which will give them the chance to explore the wonders of the living world and discover their role in preserving it.

“All Kiwi kids deserve to experience the joy of connecting with nature, and the unique learning environment at Wellington Zoo is perfect for providing a deeper understanding of wildlife and the natural world around us,” said Ms Allan.

Interislander is the most recent supporter of The Warehouse Wellington Zoofari, and is providing return passage to students travelling to Wellington from the upper South Island.

“We are delighted to support this wonderful initiative, as Interislander is all about supporting the communities in which we operate and ensuring our Kiwi kids experience a journey through one of the world’s most scenic environments – the Cook Strait and Marlborough Sounds. We will enjoy having the Marlborough and Tasman school children travelling with us on their visits to Wellington Zoo,” said Mark Thompson, General Manager Interislander.

NZ Bus also supports the initiative by providing discounted transport for participating schools to and from the Zoo.
