Move over Monopoly- There’s a new game in town!

The world launch of the Study Smarter Board game was a great afternoon with young and old learning how to learn. From 9 to 71 years old, locals came out to play the newly developed game.

The game, designed by Wellingtonian, Karen Boyes, is designed to bridge the gap between school and home. “So many students are told to go home and study, but have never been taught how. This game teaches the practical strategies in a fun way.”

“Becoming an A grade student is a matter of technique, not intelligence” says Karen. When you know how to learn, combined with brain friendly techniques, studying to pass exams can be relaxed and simple, not make you a nervous wreck.

Study Tips in the game include; to study for 20 mins and take a 5 minute brain break, drink water to maintain focus, ask questions when you are not sure, say important facts out loud and set small achievable goals for success.

Parents playing the game expressed delight at the simple tips being reinforced in a fun way. It was also commented that many of the tips are just common sense, however learning from the game was more effective that coming from a parent.”

One student commented; “This game has it all – reading, writing, maths and learning tips – all at the same time!”

The game has over 70 study tips, 12 profile cards, game player sheets, playing pieces, pencils, a spinner and dice plus the board and the box, so is component rich. Karen explains that the game could be manufactured in China and the cost would be slightly cheaper, however it will take over 35 weeks for delivery. By supporting a local business, we keep people in jobs and the game can be on the shelves by September, in time for study for the end of year exams.

As one teacher commented, if every secondary school had 5-10 copies of this game, students would be so well prepared in how to study to pass their exams.

Plus with many parents seeking after school tuition, this game might actually save families money.

The team, at Spectrum Education, behind this game, have launched a crowd funding campaign to fund the manufacture of the game. To pledge your support and to pre-order your copy of Study Smarter please go to https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/289253883/study-smarter-board-game. You only have until the 10th June to do this or the game will not be manufactured.
