Scholarships
The sons and daughters of ten current KiwiRail employees have been awarded scholarships of $2000 towards their tertiary education.
The scholarship is funded by KiwiRail Group to enable employees’ children to undertake a first undergraduate degree or diploma at a New Zealand university or polytechnic. Up to ten scholarships are awarded annually.
The scholarship is part of KiwiRail’s commitment to growth and continuous improvement, which includes the continued investment and growth of their employees and their wider whanau, and supporting youth development. As an employer, KiwiRail makes a significant contribution to the growth of New Zealand including the employment of diverse communities in central and rural areas of New Zealand.
The successful scholars for 2015 are:
Yery Cho, aged 18 from Albany in Auckland, who is studying towards a Bachelor of Arts in Media, Film and Television at the University of Auckland.
Aleisha Cotton, aged 18 from Feilding, is studying towards a Bachelor of Health Science in Physical Education at Massey University.
Abigail Delaney, aged 19 from Upper Hutt, is studying towards a Bachelor of Communication at Massey University.
Eleisha Foon, aged 19 from Lower Hutt, is studying towards a Bachelor of Communications at CPIT.
Stephanie Gadd, aged 19 from Palmerston North, is studying Veterinary Science at Massey University.
Stacey Hopwood, aged 18 from Ashburton, is studying Physiotherapy at the University of Otago.
Tiffany Huang, aged 19 from Khandallah in Wellington, is studying Biomedical Science at the University of Auckland.
Oliver Powell, aged 18 from Petone, is studying towards a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Victoria University of Wellington.
Jacob Forde, aged 20 from Invercargill, is studying towards a Bachelor of Health Science in Paramedicine at the Auckland University of Technology; and
Zane Fookes, aged 21 from Glendowie in Auckland, who is studying towards a joint Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts at Victoria University of Wellington.
Universities New Zealand, also known as New Zealand Vice-Chancellors’ Committee, administers this scholarship in addition to 40 other undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships each year. Applications for the 2016 KiwiRail Scholarship close on 1 December 2015.
