Eastland Group's tertiary engineering scholarship

Applications for Eastland Group’s annual tertiary study scholarship are now open for study in 2016, with details on the company’s website atwww.eastland.co.nz/scholarship

The scholarship offers $5,000 to Eastland region students studying engineering, and comes with the possibility of paid holiday work with the company.

As in previous years, applicants for the 2016 scholarship must write a 1000 word essay about how winning an Eastland Group scholarship would help them, and also outline their study and career aspirations.

In addition to the quality of their essay, scholarship applicants will be evaluated by Eastland Group in terms of academic achievement, character and potential leadership, potential to contribute to New Zealand’s engineering industry.

“Our aim is to select students studying subjects that complement Eastland Group’s business and operations. Therefore, applicants must be studying civil, mechanical or electrical engineering.”

The current recipients of Eastland Group’s Tertiary Study Scholarships are engineering students Briar Thomas and Sam Godwin. Mr Todd said the pair’s applications stood out among 14 other applications and so, in a change from recent years Eastland Group awarded two full scholarships for 2015.

Gisborne’s Sam Godwin has received Eastland Group’s scholarship for the past two years and is currently studying at the University of Canterbury towards a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) specialising in Civil Engineering, while Wairoa-born Briar Thomas is studying in her first professional year in civil engineering at the University of Canterbury.
