Literacy Aotearoa congratulates Stacey Shortall

Winner of the community and not for profit category of the 2015 Women of Influence Awards

Auckland 5 November 2015 – Literacy Aotearoa extends its congratulations to Stacey Shortall, winner of the Community and Not for Profit category of the 2015 Westpac Women of Influence Awards.

Bronwyn Yates, Te Tumuaki (CEO) of Literacy Aotearoa, says, “On behalf of Literacy Aotearoa I congratulate Stacey as a worthy recipient of the award. An advocate for preventing violence against women and children, Stacey’s breadth of work, her generosity, energy and use of influence to drive change is impressive. There’s a lot of respect shared amongst those who work in the not-for-profit sector, and Stacey will be feeling that today.

“I was honoured simply to be included in such an inspiring line-up of committed, capable women who care and who make a difference, she said. “I regard my nomination as recognition of the important work carried our every day by the staff and hundreds of volunteers of Literacy Aotearoa, the majority of whom, but not all, are women. They have given so much for so many years to make a difference to adult literacy in Aotearoa, New Zealand, lifting up and empowering people to do better for themselves, their whānau and their communities.

“I also take this opportunity to congratulate the supreme winner, Joan Withers, a woman who is widely admired and greatly valued as a leader who champions board diversity and strives to close the gender gap.”
