Otago Polytechnic 2016 Education Open

Tuesday 16 February

Otago Polytechnic 2016 Education Open makes ‘a little drive go a long way’

Otago businesses have again given their full support to the Otago Polytechnic Education Open taking place at Chisholm Park Golf Club on Friday 19 February and featuring New Zealand’s No.2 Golf Professional, Michael Hendry.

Hendry has played at the Education Open since 2014, and returns to support this event for the third time.

The Education Open is being sponsored by a number of Otago businesses who are keen to support Otago Polytechnic’s Education Foundation. Thirty teams will start the day with a “Short-Game Clinic” run by Hendry followed by a shotgun start to the Ambrose Tournament at 12.00pm.

According to Mike Waddell, Education Foundation Manager at Otago Polytechnic, the Foundation was set up to help Otago Polytechnic students ‘go further’.

“We’re delighted with this year’s response,” says Mr Waddell. “Our sponsors are making a lasting difference to our students’ education and opportunities. In 2015 the Education Foundation helped to send Fashion design students to showcase their collections at Shanghai Fashion Week and a nursing student to Sri Lanka.”

This year the Education Foundation has broadened its focus from encouraging students to develop their skills and knowledge base to a vision of Otago Polytechnic students in the community working together to create a sustainable future.

“For the first time the Education Foundation will fund opportunities for students and staff to work on community projects that will build sustainability and community resilience. We want to develop sustainable technologies and facilities, and to demonstrate sustainable practices that could benefit businesses and our communities, says Mr Waddell.”

The day concludes with a dinner, fundraising auction and prize-giving in the evening.
