Young Global Citizens Sought

Young Global Citizens Sought

The New Zealand Centre for Global Studies is calling for senior high school students to apply for its 2016 Global Citizenship Conference.

Featuring workshops and addresses from leading academics, the conference will encourage Kiwi high school students to reframe their perceptions of global citizenship, and examine its increasing importance to them in the 21st century.

“Global citizenship is a crucial concept at a time when our social, economic and political structures are becoming more and more globalised,” says conference project manager Libby Giles.

“This conference is about prompting young people to think about their place in the 21st century as global citizens, and giving them to the tools and knowledge to effect social change.”

The conference will take place in Wellington on 12–13 May, beginning with a parliamentary reception on the evening of Thursday 12 May. Workshops and addresses will commence on Friday 13 May at the Royal Society of New Zealand and Ministry of Education.

Applications are open to Year 11–13 students from throughout New Zealand. Find out more and apply online by 10 April 2016 at:bit.ly/NZCGSconf.
