3rd NZ Investigative Journalism conference

The New Zealand Centre for Investigative Journalism is pleased to announce the skills-based workshops being made available at our upcoming conference.

The focus of this conference is to build and practise new investigative skills. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from some of NZ's experts in a variety of workshops.

Some of our workshop sessions include:

• Matt Nippert, investigative reporter at the NZ Herald, on financial investigations and how to make sense of business reports and spreadsheets.

• Adam Boileau, cyber-security specialist, will discuss operational security in light of the police raid on Nicky Hager's house in October 2014.

• NZ Herald data journalist Harkanwal Singh, on how to create infographics and use databases to strengthen investigative stories.

• James Hollings, Senior Lecturer in Journalism at Massey University, on how the use of open-source search tools, such as Facebook Graph search, for investigations.

• Dirty Politics author Nicky Hager on the investigative methods he uses to write and research his books.

We also want this event to be a showcase of the great investigative work being done in New Zealand, and how you can get involved.

The conference will take place at Massey University, Wellington, on 9-10 July.

The schedule for the weekend is being finalised, and will be sent out a fortnight before the event.

Speakers at the conference include Jane Patterson & Andrea Vance, Duncan Grieve & Alex Casey, Abi King-Jones & Alister Barry, and Tim McKinnel.

We have three prices: $50 for waged, $25 for students and unwaged, and a corporate rate of $100.

The conference is open to all journalists, journalism students and teachers, and authors, film makers and others who are interested in or actively doing investigative journalism. Please spread the word to anyone you think may be interested.
