Mayor’s statement regarding Redcliffs School announcement

Mayor’s statement regarding Redcliffs School announcement

Mayor Lianne Dalziel welcomes this morning’s announcement by Education Minister Hekia Parata that they’re looking at options for relocating Redcliffs School.

“I commend the local community for believing in the importance of keeping their school community together. They have done everything within their power to prove the case for a local school,” she says.

“We will naturally work closely with the Ministry of Education to investigate the possibility of relocating Redcliffs School to another site in the area. I have already indicated to the Minister that the Council will do everything it can to facilitate the final decision.”

The Mayor says, “If Barnett Park is to be considered as an alternative site should the school need to be relocated, then we will consult carefully with the Redcliffs community.”

She says the community had been braced for the worst and today’s news has been a huge relief.

“I know they will really feel that they have been listened to.”
