Media Release

May 24 2017

Are you ready? Community educators look at opportunities and obstacles in a changing learning landscape

Community educators will gather at Te Wharewaka o Pōneke, June 13-15 to examine how ready, relevant and globally focused they are to meet the needs of adult learners in a fast changing world. Whether adults can access lifelong learning increases or limits their opportunities for full participation in work, technology and community, and educators need to be ready to match learner needs and expectations.

Demographer Professor Paul Spoonley will open the conference by giving participants a snapshot of what New Zealand will look like in the near future including where people will be living and working, and the age and cultural make-up of our communities. Maureen Mallon Assistant Director in Education Scotland will share insights on planning, partnerships and making best use of resources, and shearing contractor and businesswoman Mavis Mullins will discuss how we make technological shifts our norm and encourage people to stay engaged and relevant.

A wide -ranging workshop programme will explore surviving and thriving in a climate of change, evaluation and review to support sustained learner success,

financial capability collaboration in action and approaches to supporting learners to aspire and achieve.

Conference participants will also have opportunities to hear updates on adult education in the Asia Pacific Region, and from representatives of political parties.

The ACE Aotearoa Annual Awards will be presented at the conference dinner at Te Papa Marae on Wednesday June 14.
