Language Teacher Workshops hit the Road

The inaugural ILEP Roadshow of workshops for teachers of languages in Aotearoa will begin in Nelson next week with workshops being delivered to teachers of languages across the country, kicking off during International Languages Week (14-18 August 2017).

“Learning languages and understanding people and cultures is more important than ever, particularly as New Zealand rapidly becomes more and more multicultural.”
Morgan Patterson, Pathway Manager

Given that New Zealand is spread out and many of our schools, teachers and students are distanced from each other, with this roadshow ILEP is taking their vast expertise to the people, covering the following regions:

15 August Nelson

16 August Christchurch

18 August Dunedin

21 August Whangarei

28 August New Plymouth

30 August Palmerston North

National Language Advisers and Teacher Development Advisers will be delivering one-day curriculum support roadshows that focus on best practice and pedagogy for teaching and learning languages in Aotearoa. Teachers themselves have had input into the content in each location resulting in a variety of workshops reaching from ‘E-learning – 21st century skills in the language classroom’ to ‘Differentiation in the language classroom’ and ‘Using songs in the junior languages classroom’.

During the roadshow, overseas government representatives such as the Confucius Institute and the Korean Education Centre, as well as businesses and organisations such as the AsiaNZ Foundation, Alliance Française and importantly New Zealand university language departments are offering their support and collaboration. Government and other political representatives have also been invited to attend.

ILEP (International Languages, Exchanges and Pathways) is a business unit of Uniservices and delivers a contract for the New Zealand Ministry of Education to support teachers of languages nationwide to develop and enhance sustainable Learning Languages programmes in New Zealand primary, intermediate and secondary schools.

It is an absolute pleasure to deliver this contract for the Ministry of Education so that we know that communities, schools, teachers and students are receiving the most relevant and effective support in Learning Languages and the New Zealand Curriculum.”
Morgan Patterson, Pathway Manager
