New dawn for Māori history in schools
Implementation of the New Zealand history curriculum resource, Te Takanga o te Wā was launched in style at Te Papaiouru Marae in Rotorua on Saturday.
Dignitaries from te Ao Māori and the education sector joined together to celebrate the launch. Te Takanga o te Wa steering group, Te Ariki Sir Dr Tumu te Heuheu, Sir Pita Sharples, Dame June Mariu, Sir Toby Curtis, Pem Bird, QSM, MNZM and Colin Rangi were joined by the Minister of Māori Development Te Ururoa Flavell and education sector groups for a day of celebration to mark this important milestone.
Celebrations centred around signing of te Mana Orite (the accord/agreement/declaration) by education sector groups.
This launch marks the culmination of several years of development and trials, and the release of Te Takanga o te Wa for year 1-8 schools around the country to implement in their own rohe.
NZSTA is delighted to welcome Te Takanga o te
Wa into the light of day.
