Facilitation dates set

Facilitation dates set
29 October 2018

Primary teachers' union NZEI TE Riu Roa and the Ministry of Education are set to begin facilitation on Monday 5th November at 10.30am.

Facilitation will be conducted by the Chief of the Employment Relations Authority, James Crichton.

Facilitation will mean bargaining continues, but is subject to the process determined by the Employment Relations Authority (ERA).

The Authority is able to make non-binding recommendations to the parties.

NZEI National President Lynda Stuart said that should the ERA make any recommendations, the union's members would be given an opportunity to consider them.

The joint application from the two parties was accepted on Friday, with the Authority finding there were multiple grounds for accepting the application: bargaining has been protracted, further strike action is planned, and that the strike action would likely have a substantial effect on the public interest.
