Wintec House Wins Two Architecture Awards

Wintec House Wins Two Architecture Awards

Wintec House has once again shown its class by winning two awards at the New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) regional architecture awards.

The renovation of Wintec House, designed by Chow:Hill Architects, won the Heritage and Interior Design categories at the NZIA Waikato Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards.

The NZIA awards jury stated: "A significant piece of Hamilton's built history has been preserved with a care and thoughtfulness that respects the past while providing amenity to the present. The strengthening and restoration of Wintec's 90-year old F Block has resulted in a building that is sufficiently flexible for contemporary commercial use and which is a valuable asset for the institution and the city."

Winning these awards means that Wintec House is now eligible to enter the prestigious New Zealand Architecture Awards being held in May 2012.

These latest architectural awards add to Wintec House's three existing property awards.

The renovated historical building on Wintec's city campus won the Heritage and Adaptive Reuses and the Education and Arts award categories at the Property Council New Zealand Rider Levett Bucknall Property Awards in June this year. In July it was awarded gold and named the overall winner for the Commercial Projects (Education) category at the Waikato Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards.

The award-winning building, which opened in September 2010, combines educational facilities, event spaces and commercial offices. Located on the northeast corner of the Wintec campus in Hamilton city, Wintec House mixes heritage building aspects with modern architecture. The two-storey building cost around $17 million to redevelop and took around 18 months to complete.
