New Zealand Film & Television School casts new Director

This week Sashi Meanger begins his role as the new Director of the New Zealand Film & Television School in Wellington, replacing Tommy Honey who has held the role since 2003.

Mr Meanger, who has more than twenty years' experience in the education sector, brings a wealth of management and academic knowledge to his new position.

"I am very much looking forward
to this role as the Film School is one of New Zealand's most highly regarded and specialised education institutions," says Mr Meanger.

"I believe my skills in education and business management will provide the Film School with the leadership and vision needed to continue as the leading education provider for such a dynamic and fast-growing industry."

Mr Meanger was formally the MBA Director, lecturer and course co-ordinator at Victoria University's School of Management. Mr Meanger has extensive experience in the arts, culture and communications having held positions such as the Dean of Arts at the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology, Executive Director of the Pacific Islands Education Resource Centre and Head of the Communications Department at Wellington Polytechnic (now Massey University Wellington).

However, his most unique source of management experience comes from his ongoing role as director and founder of The Guava Tree; a Wellington-based store specialising in Indian gifts and accessories.

"The skills required as director at the Film School are very similar to that of a businessman, and having successfully operated The Guava Tree since 2005, I will be in a position to offer these skills to the Film School to ensure its ongoing success for many years to come."
