Whitireia: Graduation day is almost here

Graduation day is almost here

This Friday is graduation day for over 800 students who have completed their study at Whitireia this year.

Students from 50 certificate and diploma level programmes, from the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Health, Faculty of Business, Faculty of Trades, Faculty of Service Industries and Te Wānanga Māori will be graduating at a ceremony at Te Rauparaha Arena, Porirua, starting at 1pm.

The ceremony will be very much a community event with over 2500 students, invited guests and staff, filling the arena to take part in this celebration. Friday’s ceremony will be the largest combined graduation ceremony held by Whitireia.

“It will be great to see so many students graduating on Friday” said Don Campbell, Chief Executive, Whitireia New Zealand. “Graduation ceremonies are a highlight of our academic calendar. They are a celebration of the success of our students and a hugely satisfying occasion for families, staff, supporters and for all involved in some way” he said.

Guests at the ceremony will be welcomed by Ngāti Toa; followed by addresses by Don Campbell and guest speaker Ken Harris, Chief Executive, Employers Chamber of Commerce Central.

The graduation ceremony will wind up a very memorable year for Whitireia. 2011 has marked the 25th birthday of Whitireia, a tertiary institute founded on the shores of the Porirua Harbour to provide tertiary education for the wider Porirua region.
