Orientation 2012

Thursday 3 February 2012
Press Release: Aoraki Polytechnic
Aoraki Polytechnic is proud to announce
Orientation 2012, Featuring The Black Seeds
February 20-24, 2012

This February, Aoraki Polytechnic will welcome over 1100 students with its best Orientation Week yet, starting on Monday 20 February as classes begin and concluding with headline act The Black Seeds, set to play on campus on Friday 24 February at 3pm.

Further activities during the week include a welcome Mihi, BBQ lunch, activities and entertainment as well as a market day to introduce students to local services and businesses available in the community such as banks and gyms.

Orientation project team member Felicity MacFarlane says, “This year we wanted to do something that would bring all our students together, and create a big buzz so with the help of Ritchies we are transporting students from Aoraki’s Christchurch, Ashburton, Oamaru and Dunedin Campuses to Timaru for the Friday.”

We’re thrilled to have The Black Seeds on board. We’ve had a lot of support from local business and contacts in the community to make this possible, and it’s a great opportunity to welcome students, for them to mingle, and also a chance for the wider community to come on campus and see our facilities”.

Local businesses supporting the event include The Grosvenor, Port FM, All About Signs, Dowells Office Products, Signature Promotions and Ritchies Buses.

Chief Executive Kay Nelson says the event is a great way to kick off the year. “The development of on-campus events is in line with the strategic direction of the organisation; to make the campus inviting, to be more student centric and create a positive learning environment to give our students the best chance of success.”

Most classes start 20 February and Aoraki are taking enrolments right up to start date. There is also an open day on 13 February for those that would like a look around campus or to meet with tutors and gain careers advice.
