NZ Career College students to graduate in a night of celebration

On 29 March, a night of celebration and inspiration will herald the graduation of 200 New Zealand Career College students at the Telstra Clear Pacific Events Centre in Manukau.

A keynote speech by visionary youth mentor and community leader John Kotoisuva will set an energetic tone for the seventh annual graduation ceremony, along with performances from two leading Auckland cultural groups.

New Zealand Career College Managing Director Feroz Ali says the graduation promises to be a special night for students and their guests.

“It will be a particularly significant night for the Pasifika community, and will have a distinct Pacific flavour, as many of our students are Pasifika. For that reason we’re delighted to be holding it at the Telstra Clear Events Centre, a popular hub for Pasifika celebrations.”

The College believes in making its graduation ceremonies family-focussed occasions, recognising that for its students, this is a life-changing event which highlights the journey they have taken to reach this milestone. The night is a chance for the College and its community to celebrate both the students’ achievements and the college’s growth, in a vibrant atmosphere.

The students, from campuses in Manukau, North Shore, Waitakere and Auckland City, will graduate with a range of qualifcations in vital industries, including Early Childhood Education and Business.

Entertainment highlights include:

• A keynote speech by John Kotoisuva, founder of the C-Me Mentoring Foundation Trust. John believes the secret to motivating youth is to give them a reason to “personalise, visualise and emotionalise … If they believe in that reason strong enough, they will be unstoppable.”

John has a background in the steel trade, including as a tutor and assessor of apprentices, and sits on several industry and community-based boards, including the Competenz Industry Advisory Board, the MIT Industry Advisory Board, the MIT Pacific Island Advisory Board and West Fono Health Trust.

• A performance by Tatau Dance Group, an all-male Samoan dance group renowned for its high energy and fast-paced moves. Their name is drawn from the fact that each dancer displays traditional Samoan tattoo; the soga’imiti (also known as pe'a).

• A performance by Anakh Punjab Di, which translates as “Pride of Punjab”. The core of the group is made up of professional dancers who specialise in the popular folk dance Bhangra. They’ll be joined on stage by drummers, singers and other musicians, creating a vibrant spectacle.

Friends and family of students and the general public are welcome at the event.

The event is on at the Telstra Clear Pacific Events Centre, 770 Great South Rd, Manukau, on Thursday 29 March from 6.45pm.
