Being awarded a service prize and a qualification tops off a stellar year for Jon-Dylan

The added surprise of winning the Hospitality Services Prize earlier this month at NorthTec’s Certificate Awards Ceremony, capped off a sublime year for student Jon-Dylan Burville.

Jon-Dylan’s accomplishments in 2011 include, picking up a bronze medal at the Northland Salon Culinaire regional student contest, winning a silver medal in his class competition at the National Culinary Fare in August and winning a $2000 industry scholarship from New Zealand's largest hospitality and food service equipment supply company, Southern Hospitality.

Along with classmate, Harmony Martin, Jon-Dylan also made it into the top ten of the Fonterra Proud to be a Chef Competition towards the end of last year.

Jon Dylan said it was a nice surprise at NorthTec’s Awards Ceremony to win the Hospitality Services Prize, while also being awarded with his Certificate in Catering Services (Level 3). He has returned to NorthTec this year, to continue his studies in Hospitality where he aims to become a patisserie chef once he completes his studies.

Jon-Dylan said he was very much looking forward to taking part in the World Skills Culinary competition on 5 May this year that would test his ability and knowledge again in an elite competition.

On Friday 30 March at Forum North, it will be the turn of Diploma and Degree students to have their education milestones acknowledged and celebrated with the rest of the Northland community.

Prior to the official ceremony at Forum North starting at 2:00 pm, the public and business owners are being encouraged to show their support and admiration for the students achievements when they make there way through Whangarei city centre during a celebratory procession.

From 1.15 pm the procession will make its way from the Cafler Park Rose Gardens on Water St onto Vine St and through Quality St Mall before heading for Forum North along Cameron St Mall and Rust Ave and then returning to Forum North.

As well as the march, a highlight of Graduation 2011 will be an address from a well-known guest speaker who is being presented with an Honorary Associate Award by NorthTec.
