Learning support pilot extension welcomed

Learning support pilot extension welcomed - Human Rights Commission

The Human Rights Commission has welcomed the extension of a pilot programme that aims to make it easier for youngsters to access more learning support services.

“An inclusive education system is vital if all New Zealand children are to reach their full potential and we welcome the extension of the learning support pilot to more than 70,000 children,” said Disability Rights Commissioner Paula Tesoriero.

“Enabling learners and their families to receive the right support at the right time in a responsive and flexible way is an important aim of this initiative.”

The pilot was originally trialled in three Bay of Plenty communities as well as other communities across New Zealand. It sees senior staff working directly with educators in communities so they can better access services that work best for them.

“We look forward to finding out the outcomes of this initiative,” said Ms Tesoriero.
