ShapEd delivers three new primary schools under third schools PPP

ShapEd, a consortia consisting of Public Infrastructure Partners Fund II, Pacific Partnerships, CPBS (a design and construction joint venture between CPB Contractors and Southbase Construction), ASC Architects (design), and Spotless Facility Services (facilities management services) confirm the successful completion of three new primary schools, under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) contract with the Ministry of Education.

The three schools ready to receive pupils in Term One 2019 are:

• Te Uho O Te Nikau Primary School (Flat Bush, Auckland)

• Matua Ngaru School (Kumeu, Auckland)

• Te Ao Marama School (Sylvester, Hamilton)

Two more schools (Shirley Boys High School and Avonside Girls High School, Christchurch) are on track to be completed by the consortium in March 2019. Under the terms of the PPP, ShapEd is also responsible for the schools’ ongoing maintenance for the next 25 years, enabling principals and teachers to focus on teaching rather than managing property.

Martin Pugh, Project Director for ShapEd, says the new schools reflect modern approaches to creating high-quality educational environments which promote learning for today’s children.

“All the schools feature flexible learning spaces to enable changes in teaching styles to be adopted. Designed to reflect their natural surroundings and incorporating energy efficiencies and other long term sustainability-focussed design features, the schools have been built to accommodate the ongoing needs of their pupils, teaching staff and local communities. All three schools are built to a very high standard and were finished in time for the start of the new school year and within budget for the Ministry of Education”

“We are delighted to continue our successful relationship with the Ministry of Education, using the PPP model to deliver high-quality schools and contribute to positive educational outcomes for New Zealand children” said Mr Pugh.

PIP Fund II, managed by Morrison & Co. was established in 2016 after the first PPP investment fund was fully invested in PPP projects in New Zealand and Australia. These funds are New Zealand’s first funds dedicated solely to investing in PPPs.

Pacific Partnerships and CPB Contractors are both members of the CIMIC Group. CIMIC Group is an engineering-led construction, mining, services and public private partnerships leader with a history dating back to 1899.
