Higher Ground To Screen - TV One

The religious television programme, Higher Ground, will screen as scheduled on 11 March.

The General Manger of TV ONE, Shaun Brown, says last week's programme did not screen because it did not meet the standards set out in the Programming Code of Free to Air Broadcasters.

"As a broadcaster, TV ONE has a duty to ensure (prior to broadcast) that programmes meet the standards promulgated by the Broadcasting Standards Authority," he says.

"In this particular instance, some aspects of last week's programme did not meet those standards, and the producers of Higher Ground were so informed."

"I have today informed the producers that if they wish to edit out those elements of the programme which we believe are in breach of the standards, then they may do so and the revised version will be appraised accordingly.

In the meantime, Mr Brown says the second scheduled episode of Higher Ground, which has been pre-recorded and submitted for appraisal, has been assessed as perfectly acceptable for broadcast and can go ahead as scheduled beginning on Saturday morning, 11 March.

"It is not unusual for broadcasters to make scheduling or programming changes such as this in order to comply with the Code. TV ONE absolutely refutes any suggestion of outside interference," says Mr Brown.
