Car In Blakie Inquiry To Be Tested

15 June 2000

The car at the centre of the inquiry into the murder of Lisa Blakie in February will be given a test run this morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Read says that the car will be given a test run but it is not a re enactment of Lisa’s last car ride.

The 1984 Cortina is known to have been the vehicle in which Lisa was given a ride from the Shell Yaldhurst Service Station on Wednesday 2 February.

“We will take the car from the Shell Yaldhurst Service Station up to Kowai and then maybe up to Porters Pass. The purpose is to conduct some performance based tests and compare them with information from the previous owner who gave Lisa a lift in the car.”

Mr Read says that the car had been sold on several times since 2 February before Police seized it in late March.

“Police have purchased the car from the last owner so as to not inconvenience them.”

The forensic tests on the vehicle have now been completed. The tests today will show if it is in operable order after being in storage for two months. Further tests are planned in the future to be conducted by experts from the University of Canterbury’s School of Engineering.
Detective Richard Jury will drive the car today.

Media welcome at Shell Yaldhurst at 10am today.
