Spraying Called Off - Engine Problems
After a smooth and promising start to the third day of targeted aerial spraying against painted apple moth, the operation was halted just after 7am when the helicopter made a precautionary landing when warning lights indicated a possible mechanical problem.
The exact cause is not known right now but engineers are inspecting the machine. Whether spraying will continue tomorrow will depend on what they find.
Civil Aviation Authority's requirements for a twin-engine machine for safety reasons meant the pilot and navigator landed safely in Archibald Park and there was no risk to the public.
Today's aerial spraying plans were for about four to five hours spraying over the suburbs of Kelston, Glendene and TeAtatu south to complete the first stage of operation.
