Blind Week collectors rule again!

If you missed seeing a Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind (RNZFB) collector on the streets during Blind Week, you missed seeing a great bunch of people working on a great campaign.

The Blind Week appeal theme was “We can’t afford for you not to see us”, so for the second year running the RNZFB dressed its collectors in bright orange vests with large orange arrows on their heads.

The conspicuous attire gave the collectors a great opportunity to strike up conversations with passers-by, and interact with members of the public.

Jeanette Manson, RNZFB Divisional Manager Fundraising says, “Our collectors are one of the main reasons why this appeal is so successful year after year”.

“Even when we ask them to dress in a bold outfit they still offer their unconditional support. We know they’re the best collectors around, and we think that they’re pretty special for the way they support us.

“We would like to send all our collectors a public thank you for their hard work and the time they put into supporting Blind Week 2003.”

The RNZFB had 9500 collectors around the country, based in each region as follows:

Auckland/ Northland 1500
Waikato/ King Country 1200
Bay of Plenty/ Rotorua 1000
Hawkes Bay/ Poverty Bay 400
Wellington /Manawatu/ Taranaki/ Wairarapa 1100
Nelson/ Marlborough 400
Canterbury/ West Coast 1600
Otago/ Southland 2700

The Blind Week appeal income is still being counted, and the RNZFB expects to know whether it raised its target of $1 million dollars from the street appeal, door knock and direct mail by early December.

The RNZFB regional fundraising managers will have appeal results for their regions available on 1 December 2003.
