HBDHB seeking proposals for mental health services in Ahuriri

Hawke’s Bay District Health Board (HBDHB) is seeking expressions of interest from organisations interested in providing mental health and addiction services in an innovative way for people in the Ahuriri area in Napier.

Since February 2004, the DHB together with the Maori Development Organisation, Te Roopu Huihuinga, have been managing and providing services under a transitional arrangement.

HBDHB’s mental health and addiction services portfolio manager, Mary Wills, said the DHB was keen to see another community-based organisation take over the provision of services from February 2005.

“We are keen to hear from organisations wanting to provide kaupapa Maori services in an innovative way,” said Ms Wills.

“There are a number of services which we are seeking proposals for, and these include work rehabilitation; level three accommodation (Level three means the residents require at least one staff member on duty at all times) and support services.”

“People have until 5:00pm on Friday 26 November to get their proposals in to us, and the new contract/s will be effective from February 2005.

“While we would prefer to contract with a single organisation, we will look at all proposals from community-based non-government organisations.

“It’s also important that proposals support the vision of The Pathway Forward for Mental Health and Addiction services in Hawke’s Bay; demonstrate links with other mental health and addiction services to ensure continuity of care; have links with local taiwhenua and iwi; have an ability to deliver quality services and present a detailed plan with timeframes to demonstrate how services will be moved to the new organisation.”
