Increased support for advanced GP training

The College of GPs has welcomed the Government’s announcement of increased funding for the training of general practitioners.

“This increase recognises the importance of supporting the primary health care strategy with quality workforce education and development” said Dr Jim Vause president of the College.

The Clinical Training Agency is to provide additional funding of $248,917.50 (GST inclusive) for general practitioners working towards Fellowship of the College and vocational registration with the Medical Council.

Dr Vause said the College is delighted with the Ministry’s clear recognition that education of the primary care team is the key to quality health care.
