Paula Says "Don't Make The Knife First Choice!"

Paula Says "Don't Make The Knife First Choice!"

Style icon wants New Zealand women to consider other options before cosmetic surgery.

The growth in the use of cosmetic surgery by New Zealand women looking for a quick fix for the aging process is concerning style icon and publisher, Paula Ryan.

The founder of New Zealand's biggest selling fashion and beauty style guide, Simply You says women have forgotten the concept of "wellness" as an aid to timeless beauty as well as the professional attentions of beauty and style consultants who can make a huge difference with cosmetics, hairstyles and wardrobe. Paula is appealing to kiwi women to think again before opting for surgery as an easy option to halting the aging process.

Simply You is promoting Ryan's campaign in the winter edition of the magazine, (on sale 28 February, 2005) with a $10,000.00 make over prize that promotes health and well being ahead of cosmetic surgery and liposuction.

The Simply You philosophy is all about reminding people that beauty is more than just what's on the surface says Ryan who believes you need to look after every aspect of your life to look and feel great.

"The profile of all those Extreme Makeover-type programmes has given people the wrong idea about plastic surgery. The editing process doesn't show the pain patients endure, the risks of any kind of major surgery or the fact the final results are not guaranteed to last or change your life," says Ryan who is proud to say she has never been under the surgeon's knife.

To reinforce Ryan's stand, Simply You's Makeover Prize, believed to be one of the most extensive ever offered in New Zealand, will give one reader the opportunity of an inside-out transformation. Accompanied by a friend (or partner) the winner will travel to Auckland for a hair, make-up and wardrobe transformation but more importantly a complete skin analysis by leading dermatologist Dr Peter Gould and a full wellness body check-up, from the doctors at Well for Life including a mammogram, ECG heart test, cholesterol assessment and numerous other tests designed to provide the winner with a game plan for their future good health.

The package also includes jewellery and fragrance prizes plus dinner with the Simply You team to discuss the experience.

To further make the point about how the right hair, make up and wardrobe CAN make the woman, Simply You is holding live makeovers in the windows of Whitcoull's stores in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch on Friday 4th March, during the lunch hour.

"Growing older gracefully is something everyone talks about, it's simply a case of working with what you've got first and reviewing your lifestyle. Factors like diet, smoking and sun damage can be addressed before asking someone to re-create you under anaesthetic," says Ryan.
