Birthcare Changes Ownership – New GM Appointed

Birthcare directors, Lee Mathias and Roy Younge have reached an agreement for Mr Younge to take full ownership of Birthcare, including the organisation’s two maternity hospitals, (Birthcare Parnell and Birthcare Huntly) for an undisclosed sum.

Mr Younge has also announced the appointment of Ms Ann Hanson as Birthcare’s general manager from November 1, 2006. Ms Hanson is currently service manager for Primary Maternity Services at Counties-Manukau District Health Board.

“Birthcare is growing steadily and I plan to introduce a number of exciting new initiatives over coming months which will enhance Birthcare’s reputation as New Zealand’s leading maternity facility,” says Mr Younge.

Birthcare’s maternity hospitals in Parnell, Auckland and Huntly cater for normal birthing and all post-natal stays (including post-caesarean sections). In addition, Birthcare Parnell offers superior, private maternity facilities as well as services fully-funded by district health boards in the purpose-built hospital.

“I’ve valued our partnership for over eleven years and I wish Lee all the best for the future,” says Mr Younge

Meanwhile, Mr Younge says Ms Hanson’s extensive midwifery background and experience at a senior level in maternity services in New Zealand will be a valuable complement to Birthcare’s management team.
