Media Release Sent 4 March 07 8:20 pm

The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the Castlepoint area to pick up two trail bike riders injured in separate incidents during an organised trail bike ride on Castle Point Station in the Wairarapa.

The first patient picked up was a 27 year old Masterton man who was thrown off his trail bike, suffering major injuries to his chest. He was transported, in a very serious condition, to Wellington Hospital where he was treated in the Emergency Department and then transferred to the Intensive Care Unit. The man is now in ICU in a serious condition but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The second patient picked up was a 20 year old Masterton man who is believed to have broken his hip after falling off of his trail bike. He was transported to the Wellington Hospital Emergency Department and is expected to be admitted to a ward later this evening. His condition is described as stable.

Both patients were treated by a Wairarapa Ambulance paramedic at the scene and then care was handed on to a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic who arrived onboard the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
