New quit smoking email support
Smokers wanting to quit smoking now have access to free email support.
In a presentation to the international Oceania Tobacco Control Conference in Auckland today, Hayden Sanders from The Quit Group said the new email service aims to help people quit and stay quit for longer.
Mr Sanders said Quit Tip emails are a series of useful tips sent out over eight months, which are relevant to the length of time someone has been smokefree.
He says one of the main aims of Quit Tip emails is to provide a much longer period of support than many other quitting services.
“Many people quit but relapse when they hit a major stress in their lives. We need to find ways of helping people over those hurdles.”
Tips include dealing with stress, socialising with smokers and coping with cravings.
People wanting Quit Tip support need to register with the Quit Online Community at www.quit.org.nz
