Rescue Helicopter Aids Hurt Tramper At Otaki Forks


Westpac Rescue Helicopter Responds to Injured Tramper at Otaki Forks

The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to rescue an injured tramper at Otaki Forks this morning at 0900.

The tramper had fallen 20m down a bank last night at 9pm. His tramping partner had to swim 300 down stream this morning to raise the alarm.

An ambulance from Otaki responded but was unable to get the patients location.

The Westpac Helicopter responded to the scene with a Wellington Free Paramedic on board. The Helicopter was able to land on the river bank near the patient.

The Paramedic was then able to walk 10m in shallow water in the river to the patient. The patient with assistance from the paramedic and Helicopter crew was able to walk to the Helicopter.

The patient was then flown to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department with possible rib injuries and cuts and bruises to the face and body
