Public Private Partnership in health welcome

Media Release

01 August 2008

Public Private Partnership in health welcome says Guild

The Pharmacy Guild of New Zealand is welcoming comments made by the Minister of Health calling for greater collaboration between public and private health care providers.

"We welcome the Minister's comments and any opportunity to enhance the current public private partnership between community pharmacy and the Government" says Guild Chief Executive Annabel Young.

Community pharmacies are an example of a partnership where the responsibility of delivering a vital service to the public is shared between the Government and privately owned businesses. This reduces the Government's capital investment whilst preserving an appropriate amount of control over a public necessity.

"The community pharmacy partnership demonstrates how private public partnerships can provide excellent patient care in primary health." says Ms Young.
