Take a Bite out of Life

Media Release

1 September 2008

Take a Bite out of Life
and make a difference for women living with breast cancer

Sweet Louise offers a unique service that directly provides support for women living with breast cancer, enabling them to live more positive lives*. On Thursday 11 September, at Isis Spa in Newmarket, Sweet Louise launches its Take a Bite fundraiser whereby individuals host a group of friends for a bite to eat and perhaps a drink or two to toast life, collect donations and have some fun while supporting Sweet Louise. The simple format allows all sectors of the community to participate.

Jennifer Clark, Executive Director of Sweet Louise, says that all donations, no matter how small, will help Sweet Louise to support its members. “For example $50 allows a member to have someone do a little of their housework,” she says, “$75 would allow her to have a relaxation massage, $95 would allow her to have her wig restyled, and $140 would enable her to talk with a psychologist. $500 supports one Sweet Louise member for 12 months.

“Not only is the Take a Bite initiative a great opportunity to celebrate life,” she adds, “but we want to make it a memorable occasion for you and your friends; Green & Black’s Organic Chocolate has kindly donated some product which will be sent out to you to help get you in the mood and you have the opportunity to win great prizes.”

Two chances to win:

• Make your own fun creating your special Take a Bite function: Isis Spa is sponsoring a Pamper Package for the hostess who can demonstrate that her group had the most fun at their Take a Bite function.

• Ask your friends to wear their most fabulous bra on the outside, or create a work of Bra Art: Bendon is sponsoring a $500 Bendon lingerie makeover for the person appearing at a Take a Bite function with the most fabulous bra, or “Bra Art”.

Isis Spa owners Angelic Murray and Bianka Seputich say they are thrilled to be involved with Sweet Louise. “We provide our exclusive Isis spa treatments for Sweet Louise members through the Sweet Louise voucher system. We took over the business earlier in the year and since then have had only positive feedback from members taking advantage of a little pampering to brighten their day. We really feel we are making a difference in the lives of these women, and you can too by hosting a Take a Bite function and collecting donations for Sweet Louise. Simple things can make a big difference, for example a relaxing massage, having their lawns mowed or their kitchen cleaned, or simply by having someone to call. Sweet Louise provides these, and other services, to enable women living with secondary breast cancer to live a more positive life; it’s the kind of thing you might do yourself if you knew them.”

Celebrate spring with a celebration of life; Take a Bite with some friends and make a difference.

Take a Bite is proudly sponsored by Isis Spa, Bendon, and Green & Black’s Organic Chocolate.

* Sweet Louise currently supports 160 women living with secondary breast cancer (whose cancer has spread to another part of the body) in the Auckland region and has plans to expand as resources permit.
