NZ Nurses Organisation: The Heart of Healthcare in Aotearoa - Biennial Conference 2008

17th & 18th September

The NZNO (New Zealand Nurses Organisation) two-day biennial conference commences on Wednesday 17th September. Three hundred nurses, student nurses midwives, caregivers and other healthcare professionals have gathered from around the country from a membership base of more than 41,000.

The theme of the conference is ``NZNO - the Heart of Healthcare". In every part of our nations healthcare NZNO members are present day in and day out delivering care and making a positive impact on New Zealanders health.

Geoff Annals NZNO Chief Executive said "With a general election looming, NZNO has already released its own health manifesto to inform both the public and politicians that nurses regard safe staffing initiatives and a cooperative industrial environment as vital ingredients to maintain and improve the health of the nation."

A political panel discussion chaired by Richard Harman on day two of the conference will be one of the highlights. Taking part in the political panel are David Cunliffe (Labour), Tony Ryall (National), Jim Anderton (Progressives), Sue Kedgley (Greens), Barbara Stewart (NZ First), Judy Turner (United Future) and Tariana Turia (Maori Party).

"Members will be very interested to hear what steps and initiatives political parties are going to take in order to ensure the excellent provision of health services into the future" Annals said.
