Aged Care Funding Welcomed

Chris Fleming, Lead CEO Aged Residential Care

District Health Boards welcome the Government’s announcement tonight that it will invest $4 million of new money into up skilling staff in the Aged Care workforce, and they look forward to working with the sector to implement it.

DHBs themselves have committed to reinvesting recent superannuation saving gains (estimated at between $9 and $11 million) into the Aged Residential Care Sector. DHBs will use this funding to support the initiatives mentioned by the Minister of Health in his press release today.

We will review the detail of the government’s announcements and then engage with the sector to ensure the priorities are actioned as quickly as possible. The sustainability of the Aged Care Sector is of vital importance to District Health Boards and the people we serve. It is important that this additional funding is used to support this, and to grow the capability and capacity of the sector.
