Press Release

Hyundai Wheels of Courage Challenge to support Child Cancer

Some of New Zealand’s favourite faces have taken up the challenge to raise funds and awareness for children with cancer and their families by competing in the Hyundai Child Cancer Foundation Wheels of Courage Challenge on Wednesday 25 March.

There promises to be much fun and frivolities along the route with the likes of Lorraine Downes, Allyson Gofton Jackie Clarke, Tina Cross, Krystal Stewart (Dancing with the Stars), Dave Gibson (Elemeno P), Scribe and a Silver Fern netballer among some of the celebrities who have agreed to pound the pavement for this great cause.

The one-day road trip follows four routes including:
Route 1 – Auckland to Tauranga (via Paeroa and Waihi)
Route 2 – Wellington to Napier (via Masterton and Palmerston North)
Route 3 – Christchurch to Timaru (via Ashburton)
Route 4 - Dunedin to Timaru (via Oamaru)

Vehicles containing celebrities and Child Cancer Foundation collectors will leave from selected Hyundai dealerships and undertake a one-day road trip while competing to raise the most funds for Child Cancer by way of bead-o-meter readings. These bead-o-meter readings indicate how many child cancer bead bracelets each team has sold during their road trip, resulting in the most money raised on the day.

Child Cancer Foundation Chief Executive, Neil Porteous, says “We’re thrilled to have so many high profile New Zealanders take part in the Hyundai Wheels of Courage Challenge. It’s a highlight of Appeal Week and a chance for the families and children affected by cancer to meet some of their heroes.”

The bead bracelets symbolise the bravery beads that each child cancer patient receives for painful and invasive treatments... One for hair loss, one for a blood transfusion, one for an x-ray, one for chemotherapy… so each bead documents the difficult child cancer journey.

When a $10 bead bracelet is purchased people can enter the Wheels of Courage Car draw to win a Hyundai Santa Fe.
