Skycity Helps Complete New Wakatipu Trail

New Wakatipu Trail Completed With Help from Skycity

A trail that links Jardine Park at Kelvin heights to Jacks Point is now complete with the help of SKYCITY Queenstown Casino Community Trust.

Wakatipu Trails Trust received $2,500 from SKYCITY Queenstown Casino Community Trust in the last funding round and has used the funding to purchase fencing materials that were vital in completing the trail.

A not-for-profit organisation, Wakatipu Trails Trust works to develop a network of commuter and recreational trails around the Wakatipu basin.

Kaye Parker, CEO of Wakatipu Trails Trust says the funding from SKYCITY Queenstown Casino Community Trust was an immense help at a difficult time.

“We had raised the money for the trail but didn’t have enough for fencing so the grant from SKYCITY was a godsend when we were stuck between a rock and a hard place.

“They really look at the applications and help small organisations like ours in a big way.”

SKYCITY Queenstown Casino Community Trust has steadily supported the Wakatipu Trails Trust since 2003, providing over $30,000 to help fund numerous Trust projects.

Executive Manager of SKYCITY Queenstown, Michelle Baillie said the SKYCITY Queenstown Casino Community Trust was pleased to help with the creation of another great scenic trail for locals and tourists.

“The Wakatipu Trails Trust has worked incredibly hard to establish more than 20 trails in the region that not only showcase the natural beauty of the area but also encourage local people and visitors out of their cars and onto the local walkways. It’s a great organisation doing fantastic work and we are delighted to help.”

The Jardine Park to Jacks Point walkway takes around 2 to 2 1/2 hours for the return journey and is now open to the public with finishing touches to be added over the next month
