Holiday Parks Take The $1000 Breast Challenge

Holiday Parks Across New Zealand Take The $1000 Challenge

The Board of the Holiday Accommodation Parks Assn of New Zealand (HAPNZ) has selected the Breast Cancer Research Trust as its charity of choice to help it reach its goal of finding a cure for breast cancer by 2018.

Tony Moffatt, CEO of Breast Cancer Research Trust says, “We have a great fit with HAPNZ and Holiday Parks as families are critical to us all, suffering the true impact when breast cancer strikes.

“We have spent more than $7 million to date on groundbreaking and world-leading research in this country,” he continues. “However, in order to meet our goal, more funds are required with a real sense of urgency.“

The lives of over 660 New Zealand women of all ages are being lost every year and over 2,600 women are diagnosed each year with the disease. This number is increasing, and New Zealand has one of the highest rates of breast cancer in the world, so a cure has never been needed more.

Over 300 Holiday Parks nationwide will take up the Breast Cancer Research Trust’s $1,000 Challenge to join the fight to find a cure.

Fergus Brown, CEO of HAPNZ says, “We were particularly impressed with the Trust’s ambitious goal to find a cure by 2018, and the $1000 Challenge is a great way for each Holiday Park to significantly contribute to that goal.”

With each Park aiming to raise at least $1,000, HAPNZ are hoping to reach over $300,000 to assist in the funding of critical research. In 2009 over 6.4 million guest nights were spent in Holiday Parks, and they will invite these guests to join the fight and help meet the target.

Newly appointed Breast Cancer Research Trust ambassador and TV celebrity Jaquie Brown comments, “I am so thrilled to be part of the Holiday Parks $1000 Challenge. It will be a huge help with our fundraising efforts, getting us one step closer to finding a cure.”
